The camping trip over the July fourth week will go down in history as the worst ever. As I frantically spent the day planning and packing for a camping trip for six days, Jackson broke his arm ( see posts below). He decided it he really wanted to go despite his injury.
What came next? Well, my dear, let me share.
* David sliced his thumb open down the entire length of it. It was pretty bloody. We loaded up the family and I drove the car a very fast 20mph down the mountain( I hate hate hate hate hate hate driving or even riding on the sides of mountains), as David complained of dizziness and attempted to stay calm while I shakily cried on the inside about us all plummeting to our deaths. We got lucky because our friends met us 10 minutes into the "scenic" drive and took him to the hospital 2 hours away to get stitched up.
*David and Frank returned to the camp grounds exhausted. It was a long night. Happy fourth!
*David was instructed to take some antibiotics, painkillers and also had a tetnis shot. He did as he was told and took the medicine. Lo and behold! he was sick as a dog with fever and vomiting. Not pretty at home, but at a remote campsite with those lovely toilets that don't flush-you know the ones-full of flies that you hope don't land on your backside-the same ones you have nightmares about your child slipping into-yep. Not pretty.
*Isaac's allergies proceeded to act up so badly that his eye was nearly swollen shut at one point.
*On our way home, the truck broke down. We could start it up, but then it would just die after a half a mile or so-all on single lane highway between a mountain and the very full Clearwater River. Oh-did I mention that the temperatures were at record highs that day. Where we were, the car thermometer read 103 degrees.
*Since it was our last camping day, Isaac ran out of clean clothing and I told him to just wear his fuzzy polyester pajamas for the trip home. No biggie. He ended up having to borrow our friends' shirt and shorts-a teenage girl. Poor Isaac.
We did, however, have a little fun too. The kids fished, hiked, swam, ate waaaaay too many marshmallows, and learned to be expert UNO players. All in all, we can at least chalk it up to a memorable trip.
The view from our campsite
Isaac jumping off a rock
Sam, our buddy playing with a dead fish...so funny!
We call him Schmeegle.
Corbin playing with same dead fish
( these two fought over that silly fish the entire time we were at this beach)
Isaac fishing
Brody posing or as we like to call it,

Sad Jackson
Five crazy guys
A sandcastle masterpiece-complete with real fish in the mote!!
